Hemant Joshi

Post Doctoral Scholar

Hemant is a dedicated researcher with a bachelor’s degree in biomedical science from the University of Delhi and a master’s degree in biotechnology from Jamia Millia Islamia University, India.

During his Ph.D. tenure (2017-24) at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Hemant focused his research efforts on unraveling the intricacies of mycobacterial persistence. Utilizing Mycobacterium smegmatis as a model organism, he conducted comprehensive investigations into the genetic determinants underlying mycobacterial persistence. This involved screening a transposon mutant library of M. smegmatis, leveraging key phenotypes associated with persistence. His work significantly contributes to enhancing our comprehension of mycobacterial persistence mechanisms.

In addition to his primary focus on mycobacterial persistence, Hemant collaborated on projects aimed at elucidating the molecular functions of uncharacterized PE/PPE proteins of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. These proteins play a crucial role in the host-pathogen interface and disease pathogenesis. With his diverse research background and unwavering dedication, Hemant Joshi is poised to continue making significant contributions to the scientific community's understanding of infectious diseases and microbial persistence.

Outside the lab in his free time, he enjoys music and playing cricket.
